That’s why I thought I would remind you about the Tie-Dye technique that everyone has forgotten. Re-use old t-shirts that you still have since grade school and create your own designs so they turn out unique every single time! With the wonderful internet you can learn to do more complicated patterns!

If you run a electronics recycling centre and need to take care of of the waist, you can do it properly by taking out toxic chemicals that pollute OR you can just send it to Nigeria en have them buy broken tv and let the country grow into a huge electronic dump. Isn’t that just dandy?

HEMP! Ahaaaa…saviour of the universe?!

So this post is about hemp. You know that drug that is illegal and rots people minds and leads to murder, rape and evil!

No.

Of course that is not the case. The plant Cannabis Sativa illegal in most countries but some sorts are called industrial hemp, but the THC level (that which makes you intoxicated) may not exceed 0,2%. But then you need a permit which anyone can apply for, but it’s not assured that you recieve it.

The name Cannabis Sativa is followed by a very negativ vibe due to it having some “narcotic” properties. It has been illegal for so long that people have shut their eyes and ears to its fantastic abilities and large area of use! This post is not about smoking hemp and getting high, but about the things most people don’t realize that this plant can be used for!

Here are some fantastic benefits:

The leaves absorb large amounts of energy from the sun the plant can be harvested in 100-12o days.
It can grow as tall as 4.5 meters and can be planted close to each other.
The large leaves are once again have its advantages blocking out sun light from potential weeds which means it can grow organically without the needs of poisonous herbicides.
Hemp is very tough and can grow at heights as high as 3000 meter above sea level.
From the plant you can extract oil which can be used for biofeul, food oil, shampoo, soap etc.
Produce clothes! It creates a strong fabric and is is widely used for all sorts of clothing from shoes to dresses.
More things you didn’t think could be made from hemp: guitars, houses, furniture, paper, milk (!), surfboards, skateboards etc.
Not to mension the medical benefits! Did you know hemp contains loads of Omega 3?!

The are loads of products shortly put. Hemp can replace even plastic in many areas! Why would you do that you might think? Becuase hemp is renewable and 100% natural which means all the products made can be composted and leaves no material or toxins behind like plastic does.

The summary is that tough, easy to grow in LARGE amounts, it grows really quick, you can use it for loads of things and further more it’s eco-friendly AND renewable. It would improve the circumstances for many countries if properly put to use!
And in ADDITION to that ladies and gentlemen, anyone can grow it in their backyard if they get a permit which means that EVERYBODY without putting themselves or the planet in danger contribute to their own living circumstances. That means less consuming, less waisting of energy, less pollution…more love!

Still worried that the world will be filled by evil THC zombies?

Hemp contains so little THC that it would take a tremendous amount of work to produce something that make you intoxicated that it wouldn’t be worth the trouble

Afraid that plants with high THC level is hidden between? Impossible! To grow plants like that they needs to be female, so they may absolutely not mix with males, otherwise their just plain hemp.

So there the myths are crushed and you can begin to grow your own hemp!
The summer is life to to grow hemp due to it only needing about 3-4 months of growing to become huge plants. That means you’ll have the whole winter to learn the different ways to use hemp!

I found this picture on treehugger.com and I thought it was amazing. They put a heap of junk in front of a bright light and the shadow of it turns out really original. How do you make something so precise out of junk? Impressive!

Can we stop whaling?

I got a mail from my girl Lezanne where they show how whaling is done at the Faroe Islands, and one gets quite sad.

Whaling has been around for thousands of years in many human cultures, but if you compare it to how long it has taken for whales to evolve into the massive creatures they are today then it has only been going on a few second. But still it has had an enormous effect on whales existence and numbers, which means we’re are destroying their natural ecosystem. Most whales don’t have any natural enemies, and humans have no need to kill them either, we will survive without sacrificing their lives.

Luckely many countries have forbidden commersial whaling, but some countries e.g. Iceland, Faroe Islands (Denmark) and Japan and continue with the arguement:

“We kill the whales and do necessary research to maintain the numbers of whales”

Logical?

Around the Faroe Islands, 950 whales are killed by being surrounded and them lured to the beach, then they just have to start buchering! Below you can view pictures of the massacre.

Ofcourse i forgot to inform you about a psytrance festival that goes on for 7 days in Portugal: BOOM FESTIVAL! It is one of the world’s largest psytrance events and it’s 100% eco-friendly and sustainable, they don’t even use chemicals in the toilets and do not leave any trace that could effect the environment. Last time it was held was August 2008 and you have the chance to participate in 2010, becuase it’s only held every two years.

Psytrance parties – where love is revealed

From the beginning when humans started using tools, music has existed in cultures around the world. It often awakens strong emotions and this ahas even been used to come in contact with spirits, other dimensions or to end up in a trance.
Everyone has different styles of music that show them the way to love, but there is one genre that I started listening to only a few years ago that has really opened me.

.I would like to say it has opened the doors to understanding love.

The genre is psytrance. Or its more the whole event where people dans around in nature. Just look at this:

Dress as you want, dance as you want, you don’t even have to speak to to anybody if you really don’t want to, it’s all love. The whole philosophy with psytrance parties is to open your mind to all kinds of people and learn something from them, show respect and love and even maybe learn something form yourself!

In Cape Town where I started going to these parties the psytrance scene is big and there are established parties almost every weekend in the summer. People gather outdoors in beautiful locations among mountains, valleys and rivers and feel the rythm together. You may not like the music in the beginning, I didn’t either, but when your standing there dancing with all the people you cannot help but feel the love and good vibrations.

It is a movement to something better. The world is not going to change by dancing, absolutely not. But it inspires people to understand and spread love! Just look at me, I was relatively closed minded before, I didn’t understand the reason for caring for other people all the time.

Now I’m writing a blog about love, respect and mother nature. Who would of thought? Not me! But I’m very happy for the change of mind and it gives me more joy than I ever would of known.

Psytrance exists all around the world, it’s not the only genre with the love movement. Even rave, house and reggae has that same philosophy. The love generation. But to me trance is natural, it brings us together with nature as it should be. Feel connected with the universe!

6 Simple Household Tips for Saving Energy

Saving energy is good for many reasons, you lower your electricity bill, you learn not to waist and you reduce pollution in the environment. Although many electricity companies use renewable energy from winds or water power, which is great of course, but that does not mean you just have to keep on juicing! To live a conscious life and reduce waist in all areas of ones life is important to appreciate what you en keep a balance.

There are loads of things you can do everyday that doesn’t have to be a pain in the ass, if you just find a routine. Try and see it as impossible to for example boiling an egg if you do not follow the following procedures, you do simply don’t have a choice. JUST DO IT!

When you’re boiling water on the stove, put a lid on the pot. All the heat is preserved and it boiled much quicker!

Cooking food on the stove? Turn it off a little while before you’re done. The remaining heat in the plate will be enough for the last minutes of cooking which means you won’t be waisting any energy!

Don’t open the oven the whole time to check if the food’s done. It release loads of heat and everytime you close it again it takes a while for the oven to reach the same temperature.

Defrost your freezer often! This makes it more effecient and doesn’t need that much energy to becomes ice cold.

Rinse used packaging e.g. aluminium cans, milk packs and other containers before recycling them. This prevents odour andmakes it easier for the recycling station to recycle.

Everytime you leave a room like the bathroom, kitchen or bedroom then turn off the lights. You save loads of energy and when you come back you just flip the switch again and voila, light!

12 tips to celebrate Valentine’s day, hippie style!

This is a day where love should be celebrated. Nowadays it has become so extremely commercial that it’s hard for a normal person to know what love is. Is it strong feelings for someone or is it a box of chocolates? That you must decide! But first some history.

Valentine’s day comes from the celebration of several early martyrs by the name Valentin(us). By martyr it means someone who has sacrificed his or her life to preserve a cause of several other lives. Selflessness, ergo love. This has received a day of celebration on the 14th of february. The romantic part of this day started by people realizing that birds find their mate for the year to come, and so we made this into a celebration by trying to do the same on this very day.

This day is about celebrating love in all forms! So if you don’t have a partner you can share love with, do it with whomever as long as you respect, love and appreciate eachother for who you are.
I’m not that good at thinking of good present or activities, therefor I have looked for and found some cool ideas for you guys that are just as poor as me at making the special, special. My treat!

1. You open your eyes in the morning and what do you find? Fair trade coffee, eco müsli, eco yogurt, eco eggs from free range hens fair trade orange juice. There is no better way to start the day!

2. The days are cold now, atleast in Sweden, and luckely we have iceskating rinks that we can use to create a wonderfully romantic activity filled with bruises and red noses! I can see the hearts flying around!

3. Send a e-card that shows your love for eachother and our planet HERE

4. Relax and tickle your taste buds. Everyone likes something delicious to drink! Buy a nice bottle organic wine, or if a long night lays ahead buy a happy box of Cape Original Shiraz-Cabernet Sauvignon. More of a beer person? Buy my favorate Brakspear Organic beer from England.

5. Something orginal and quite effectful is to write your partners name on your arm with natural henna! If you want it to be more intimate you don’t have to write it on you arm.

6. Cook an organic dinner. I heard that organic ingredients taste more and better, so make it special with natural ingredients and a delicious dish, maybe even vegetarian. Learn something new together!

7. Buy a bouquet of fair trade and organically grown roses. Apperently they smell the way roses are supposed to smell without pesticides, NATURAL!

8. A few ideas for hippie gifts:

If you’re talented, write a song or paint a picture filled with love
A bonsai tree. It lasts for years and need loads of love and care, also it’s good for the environment!
Buy a handbag or slingbag made of hemp or organic cotton. I have one myself and it always comes in handy when going to buy groceries or if you have something to carry around.

9. Have a picnic! Cold out side? You don’t have to go far for it to be special. Sit on the livingroom floor even if it feels boring to be a at home. I bet you don’t usually spend much time on the floor!

10. Give one of the best things you can give, a massage! You can do it on eachother and there are natural alternatives to regular oils in any health shop.

11. I love desserts, and I guess I’m not unique! Ben & Jerry’s has fair trade and orgnanic icecream like funky monkey. Do you love chocolate? If so then I would STRONGLY recommend the best chocolate cake in the world and that’s no joke. It’s even called The Best Chocolate Cale You Ever Ate! It’s really a sensation for your taste buds and worth trying. Click on the name to get to the recipe and try to replace as many ingredients as possible with organic and fair trade alternatives.

12. And lat but not least, do it the same the day after, and every day after that! You never need a particular day to celebrate love and eachother!
